2. Washing and Carding (Amasia Center)
Once sheared, the wool is transported to the Amasia Wool Processing Factory, where master processor Samvel Grigoryan oversees its transformation from raw fleece into clean, carded fibre. Each batch is washed three times using water from the local municipal supply and biodegradable, low-impact soap, carefully selected to minimise environmental load and maintain wool purity.
The cleaned wool is then carded both manually and mechanically, a process that gently untangles, aligns, and aerates the fibres without compromising their natural lanolin content or structural resilience. This balance of traditional skill and minimal machinery ensures the fibre’s performance is preserved while reducing energy consumption and chemical inputs, readying it for hands that will spin, dye, and weave.
